Deb Detmers is currently employed on the federal staff of downstate Congressman John Shimkus. Before that, Detmers was Campaign Finance Director for George Ryan from 1991 to 1995. In 2000, Detmers was appointed by then-Governor George Ryan to the Illinos Arts Council.
Detmers testified during the former Governor’s racketeering and fraud trial that taxpayers paid for some non-government work she did while on state time. She testified that the campaign raised approximately $500,000 each year from George Ryan’s Secretary of State employees.
Detmers also admitted during testimony she drew a paycheck for four months in 1991 from the Secretary of State’s office during George Ryan’s tenure even though she was hired to work for the politician’s campaign fund.
Detmers acknowledged during questioning by the U.S. Attorney’s office that she was aware of the aggressive fundraising tactics used on employees of the Secretary of State’s office. When asked what she did about it, Detmers testified, “I didn’t do anything.”
Detmers testified at trial under a grant of immunity from the Feds.
Detmers was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2008.
