UPDATE: On Thursday, April 14, 2011, just 72 hours after Republican News Watch made the demand, Craig Pesek has resigned as one of the 19 members of the Illinois GOP’s State Central Committee.
Craig Pesek previously served as State Central Committeeman for the 3rd Congressional District.
Back in September 2006, we reported on the controversy surrounding Craig Pesek’s selection to the State Central Committee. The issue of Pesek’s residency was raised by some township committeemen, but ignored by the State GOP’s leadership.
Despite overwhelming evidence presented to State GOP officials that Pesek did not live in the Congressional District he was supposed to be representing (which would be a violation of Illinois law as well as the State GOP’s own By-Laws), Pesek was allowed to remain on the State Central Committee representing the 3rd Congressional District.
Another concern for Republicans is Pesek’s close relationship to Cicero’s controversial Town President, Larry Dominick. Craig Pesek, and his brother Jeff, are close political advisers to Dominick.
Since 2004, Craig Pesek and his brother Jeff have contributed pr loaned approximately $100,000 to Larry Dominick’s mayorial campaigns.
Pesek works for Dominick as a senior staffer in town government. He currently serves as the town’s building project manager. Shortly after Dominick’s first election in 2005, Cicero officials agreed to pay $1 million to settle a lawsuit filed against the town by Craig’s brother Jeff. This financial windfall – and apparent preferential treatment – raised more than a few eyebrows considering the past contributions from the two Pesek brothers.
In filings with the Federal Election Commission and Illinois Board of Elections, Craig Pesek lists his occupation as manager of The Dog Stop, and sometimes as owner/manager of Ontourage Night Club. For some reason Pesek hasn’t listed his full-time employment by the town of Cicero when he makes political contributions.
Besides his full-time job with the town of Cicero, and owning and managing a hot dog stand and a Chicago nightclub – Pesek is also a Trustee on the Board of the Cicero Library.
The Chicago Sun-Times on April 11, 2011, exposed additional bombshell revelations regarding Pesek’s connections to Cicero’s criminal element.
