In the dead of night less than two hours before the May 31st midnight deadline of the regular spring session in Springfield, six Republican State Senators betrayed the Illinois Republican Party Platform which clearly opposes gambling expansion. The six joined Democrats in voting for SB 1849 which massively expands gambling statewide.
The six sellouts are: Bomke, Luechtefeld, Murphy, Pankau, Sandack, and Syverson.
Sellout Dave Syverson is also one of the 19 members of the Illinois Republican Party’s State Central Committee. But even worse than that – he’s the Co-Chairman of the Platform and Resolutions Committee for the State GOP Convention coming up next weekend.
In addition to the six sellouts – two more Republicans took the coward’s way out. Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady voted “present.”
So if you’re scoring at home, in the Senate it’s sellouts 6 and spineless 2.
House Republicans turned in an even more shameful performance last week with 24 GOP State Representatives supporting the Democrats’ bill.
