Will County was formed in 1836 out of Cook, Iroquois and Vermilion Counties. Its county seat is Joliet, Illinois. Whiteside County was formed in 1836 out of Jo Daviess and Henry Counties. Whiteside County Its county seat is Morrison, Illinois. Whiteside County is named for General Samuel Whiteside, an Illinois officer in the War of 1812 and Black Hawk War. Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan was born in the Whiteside County community of Tampico.

White County was organized from Gallatin County in 1815. Its county seat is Carmi, Illinois. White County was named for Captain Leonard White, a Gallatin County legislator who is credited with the idea of extending the Illinois-Wisconsin border a few miles north of the southern tip of Lake Michigan.
