AP incorrectly labels Mark Kirk a “moderate” on abortion and guns

Associate Press reporter Steven Hurst says Mark Kirk is “historically a moderate on issues like abortion and gun control” in an article posted earlier today.

First, Mark Kirk says it’s fine to abort a baby, even one that could survive on its own outside of the mother’s womb. In 2003, Kirk even voted against the federal ban on partial birth abortion. That’s not “moderate” that’s extreme.

Second, Mark Kirk’s latest grade from the National Rifle Association is an F. His most recent rating from the Gun Owners of America is an F MINUS. Again, that’s extreme.

As we’ve previously noted, the idea that Mark Kirk is a “moderate” anything is one of the most often repeated myths of this campaign cycle.

Before labeling Mark Kirk a “moderate” - the mainstream media would be wise to review his voting record here.
