Need a way to work off that big Thanksgiving feast? Why not take a walk around the neighborhood and collect some petition signatures.
There’s still time to get on the ballot for Republican Precinct Committeeman (or Republican Township Committeeman in Cook County). A minimum of only valid 10 signatures are needed to get on the ballot for Precinct Committeeman – and one of those can be your own.
If you live outside of Cook County there’s nearly a 50/50 chance your precinct isn’t even represented by an elected Republican Precinct Committeeman right now.
Petition signers must be registered to vote in your precinct, but a petition circulator need only be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. A circulator need not live in the precinct.
So give Uncle Bill and Aunt Mary a clipboard and hit the streets. Add a little democracy to your family’s Thanksgiving festivities.
The close of business this Monday, December 2 is the deadline for filing candidate petitions in Illinois. Candidates for Precinct Committeeman (and Township Committeeman in Cook) file with the County Clerk.
