Republicans help pass gay marriage bill in Illinois House

The same-sex marriage bill (SB10) passed the Illinois House today with the help of Republican lawmakers. The vote was 61-54.

Tom Cross, Ron Sandack and Ed Sullivan were the only Republican State Representatives voting YES. If not for these Republicans, the bill would have fallen short of the 60 votes needed for passage.

The House version of the bill now goes back to the State Senate were it is expected to easily pass. The State Senate passed an earlier version of the bill back on February 14, 2013.
