The Illinois Senate passed SB35 by unanimous vote last month.
These GOP Senators did their job to make the Illinois Republican Party better and more competitive. These Republicans stood up for you when they voted YES on SB35: Pamela Althoff, Larry Bomke, Bill Brady, Shane Cultra, Kirk Dillard, Dan Duffy, Christine Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Darin LaHood, Chris Lauzen, David Luechtefeld, Sam McCann, Kyle McCarter, Carole Pankau, Christine Radogno, Sue Rezin, Dale Righter, Ronald Sandack, Suzi Schmidt, and Dave Syverson.
Unfortunately it’s a completely different story in the State Capitol’s other chamber. The House Republicans are lagging far behind.
Most are carping about the legislative district maps drawn by the Democrats. Now all of a sudden they say it matters a lot who votes, and under what circumstances. When the office at stake is their State Representative seat, they’re suddenly all about “fairness” and “voting rights.” Some of them are already talking about lawsuits.
Meanwhile, regular Republicans like you who just want your vote back for an office that’s even more important, are being ignored – and it doesn’t seem to matter an iota that you’re also the one paying for those lawmakers’ generous salaries, pensions and perks.
Republicans Robert Pritchard, Jason Barickman, and Michael Connelly have signed-on as SB35 co-sponsors in the House. They’ve shown leadership.
But we’re seeing nothing from the rest.
We urge you to contact these other Republican State Representatives. Tell them it’s time to worry about someone other than themselves. Tell them you want your vote back. (Email addresses for all are in one block at the bottom if you prefer that method.)
Next Tuesday, May 31st is the end of the regular legislative session in Springfield and right now lawmakers are scheduled to work through the weekend (very unusual) in order to finish crucial business before the deadline. SB35 can get done – but it’s really up to regular Republicans standing up for themselves and demanding more from these Republican State Representatives.
