State GOP Chair Pat Brady makes strong case for SB35

By DOUG IBENDAHL • May 19, 2011

Wow, State GOP Chairman Pat Brady has always opposed Senate Bill 35, but yesterday he voiced some excellent rhetoric making the case for passage of the direct election reform.

Here are some of Brady’s right-on-target quotes from Thursday:

“It’s a sad commentary for Illinois when a select few people with a special passcode to a private room in Springfield decide the future of public policy in our state while holding phony public meetings and putting on a facade of transparency.”

“By shutting Republicans and Independents completely out from the process and only allowing their own members to have input . . . [they] have confused the definition of ‘transparency’ with ‘hypocrisy’”

“This week, a select few . . . used every trick they had to stifle any future debate . . .”

Oh, wait. My mistake.

Pat Brady’s not talking about the organization he chairs or SB35. He’s not talking about the State Central Committee meeting back in March where a phony by-law change was adopted behind closed doors in secret executive session that instead of addressing the serious problems with our State Party’s current structure – actually makes things worse.

Brady’s also not talking about his opposition to a more transparent and accountable Illinois Republican Party. He’s not talking about Republican officials shutting out Republican voters.

And he’s definitely not talking about his own facades and hypocrisy.

Pat Brady’s only talking about the Democrats and redistricting.

I get it now. Brady hates hypocrisy, arrogance, secrecy, and lack of transparency – but only when he can point fingers at someone else.
